Three Steps To Going Minimalist Before The End Of The Year

Posted on: 22 December 2016

With the ringing in of a new year, you may be wishing to leave things that you don't want in the past year. If you are ready to move into the new year without having any sort of clutter and unnecessary things and if you want to go minimalist and only surround yourself with things that you want and need, you should have a major cleanup right before the end of the year. Here are three ways to prepare for going minimalist during the new year.

Script your life

Before you start to clear out any clutter, you need to determine just what you need inside of your home. To do this, you should write down what you want your life to look like for the next year. Determine what kind of hobbies you love doing, what you want for your family, and your goals. After you have scripted what you want for the new year, you can start making a list of things you need and things that you no longer desire. This will help you determine what to get rid of.

Hire dumpster rentals

The best way to get rid of clutter is to commit to go through it all at once. Select a two-day span before the end of the year when you and your family are home to get rid of any clutter. Go through every room and get rid of everything that is no longer wanted or necessary. Anything that is trash or cannot be taken in to donate should be throw away. At the end of the cleaning and the two days, have the dumpster taken away so that everything is gone in one swoop. This will also stop people from changing their mind and bringing items back in before regular trash removal day.  Contact a company like The Green Dumpster LLC to learn more about your dumpster rental options.

Organize your home better

In order for your new minimalism to be effective, you should make sure that you are organized. If you are not organized, you may find yourself buying something that you already have or spending too much time looking for something. Make sure that everything inside of your home has an appropriate spot. Everyone in the family should know where everything belongs so that it is easy to keep the home decluttered and easy to use. Once the home is completely clean and set up, everyone together should take a look at each room and where everything is sitting.
